Thankful for Wal-Mart
"How did the two of you meet?" my husband and I often get asked.
It's a question that makes sense, considering he is a deer-hunting, cheese curd lover, Green Bay Packer rooting fan from Wisconsin, and I am as southern as pecan pie, fried chicken, and sweet tea and front porch sittin' with a southern accent to match. I guess we do make an odd pair at first glance.
"At Wal-Mart", I always tell them. "He lost his receipt for me and couldn't get a refund, so he's stuck with me." :-)

| Dan & Melanie -- May, 1997 |
Dan moved to TN to go to school at Moody Aviation to train to be a missionary pilot. I was at a local university slaving away as a programming nerd in the computer lab to get a computer science degree... So, we both got jobs at Wal-Mart. Really.... we met at Wal-Mart. What? You don't think that is romantic?! I'm shocked! :-)
It's interesting when you make decisions in life that seem to be inconsequential that they could turn out to be life-altering events. A job at wal-mart, the cute stockman.... and the next thing you know it's 14 years later! We are still best friends, and I can't imagine life without him. We laugh far more than we cry, talk and tease far more than we argue, pray together more than ever before, and love sharing each of life's milestones together.
I've learned to prayerfully consider each decision I make. You just never know where the road could lead. As long as each decision is made under the guidance of God's plan, everything will work out for good. There have, of course, been bumps along the road, but we have learned through it all to keep God as the center of our marriage and stay focused on Him, and not one another.
We may fail one another, but God never will.
And as you can see, we have so many reasons to be thankful for Wal-Mart! :-)

How do you add the blog logo to the sidebar?
Love this story, Melanie!
Melanie:
That's a precious story.
Hi Melanie! I came across your blog through a Google search (trying to help a friend figure out a good guy's gift for Secret Santa... and he drinks coffee so I typed that in my search too). Google works in some awesome ways, but God works in greater ones! I'm excited to read all of your posts! This was the perfect one for me to start out on. My husband and I got married this past May (a year from our first date), and we couldn't be happier. We started a little newlywed blog - we post mostly videos but we'd love for you to stop by sometime!! You seem to have a LOVELY family - can't wait to find out more about them!
Looking forward to seeing what the Lord is doing in your life,
Whitney
Love at Walmart--how funny! It's so nice to see a happily married couple, and what cute boys you have.
What a beautiful family you have!
A great love story!!!
God is so amazing. I find it incredibly ironic that you grew up behind the airport and ended up marrying a Moody guy! That is just like how Mark and I grew up in and around each other (playing just down the street from his house at your house and Whitney's when I was a kid), went to Awana's at Hunter First, rode the same school bus sometimes and yet it wasn't until high school that God crossed our paths. We too were married 14 years this past August. Our marriage has not been picture perfect, but thanks to God's Sovereignty, LOTS OF GRACE AND MERCY, and never failing to teach us...we are more in love with God and more in love with each other than ever before. I am so glad we have reconnected. (BTW...Mark loves to fly and recently got his private license...he never outgrew the fascination since Al Rice took him up in a plane as a young boy). I am waiting to see what God is up to with that dream that was planted in his heart so many years ago and my passion for missions. Time will tell.
