I Want to Remember

I had my first parent-teacher conference at school with Isaac's kindergarten teacher. I arrived a few minutes early so I waited in the hallway, looking at the artwork hanging on the wall. The most precious one was marked with a shaky, handwritten signature, "Isaac".

Some of the older students passed me as I stood there in the hallway, and I just imagined that it must seem to their parents like yesterday that they started kindergarten. I know the years will pass quickly, and I want to cherish each moment with my gifts from God, all wrapped up in funny, curious, sticky, sometimes muddy "little boy packages".

I want to remember the heartfelt drawings of "Mommy and Me"
given to me after school...

I want to remember Isaac sitting on my lap in the school hallway,
waiting for class to start...

I want to remember him always insisting on being at school early
-- even before the teacher!

I want to remember Jeremiah snuggling up beside me while
drinking his cup of milk before bed...

I want to remember his wet kisses and the noises he makes to show
me he is giving me a "big" hug...

I want to remember Isaac waving and blowing me kisses
from the soccer field...

I want to remember the sweet way Jeremiah says "Mama"...

What are you remembering to remember?

Oh what a sweet post! I want to remember every second. :) Like my little girl giggling and smiling when she sees me or my little boy saying "Up please" wanting to pick me up and how he gives his little sisters kisses and pats her when she's crying. Oh, there's so much I want to remember! :)

I am so proud of you for being a "momma in the moment." It is so easy to get buried in the trenches and miss those precious experiences. As you know, my oldest has sprouted wings and very near putting them into full flight. Every moment is teachable, my sweet, young friend - make the most of each one! I love you and you are a GREAT mom!!

LOve this post...I want to remember what my newborn smells like, 'cause I know all to well, how fast they grow and how quickly they loose that sweet, sweet smell! And, I want to remember how my daughter gives head butts for kisses and says "wuv you" whenever I put her down for a nap!

Melanie, we are on the other end of this process. Cheryl and I want to remember that our kids ...
- loved their last year at home
- did well in school
- have goals set for life
- have a solid ethical system in place for when we aren't around
- know that we love and support them
- will remember that we were cheering from the stands at their games
- will be committed Christians
- will know their mom and dad are committed to each other and will be together in empty nest
- will miss us, and even shed a tear, when we drive off from the college we drop them off at.

Keep cherishing these moments with your children, and, though the departure for college will be tough, there will be a sweetness to it, as well.

Good post.

I remember 33 Meet the Teacher Nights and how so many parents wanted to know how their child was doing after a week of school! Have to give them time to adjust, each year is a new adventure.

Wow my little monkey is only 5 months old and I can already tell I'll be cherishing those sweet moments just like you described when he's starting kindergarden. They grow up much too fast.

Looking forward to reading more posts, your new friend from BlogFrog.

Thanks for stoppoing by my blog!

I'm not a mama just yet, but I will definitely want to remember everything, all of those special memories as my kiddos grow up. These are such sweet memories you carry with you from your son. He's a lucky guy to have such a caring Mom.

I want to remember all these things from my lil girls too! I especially want to remember how my baby Kay clings to me, and how she snuggles so close. Time goes by so fast.

Have a safe and happy Halloween!

What a sweet post. I want to remember how mine reaches to hold my hand when I get him from school. I know it will not be long until he won't be seen holding my hand, and I love that he does it now!
I am following you now...

Oh yes, you've got to soak all those moments up and keep them forever. Don't let them pass by without notice! It's way too easy to do that in all the busyness.

Very sweet post. It has been many years since my children were in kindergarten but I remember the first day of each of them. I also remember a lot of their wonderful times during their school years. I still have some of their art work, stories and other things. Treasure these moments that will be memories to cherish the rest of your life. Hugs

Lovely post! My children are grown up now, but I cherish the memories from each stage of their childhoods. And it’s wonderful to connect with them as adults now. Enjoy!

This morning, I want to remember the fun of heading out to watch them trick or treat. My 12 yr old asked last night if he could go just with his friends, offering taking his 10 yr old brother also who was thrilled to be included. My escort duties are over (sigh). On to the next phase!

I have 6 children, the oldest is 8 and the youngest is 12 days old. Sometimes I wish that they could stay the same age for a long time, but they can't so I'm cherishing every moment of our lives together.

I want to remember the way my son says, "Mommy, mommy, mommy" to check where I am.
The way my daughter out of the blue says, "Mommy, I love you."

Hey Mel!!

We just had our first P-T conference a couple of weeks ago, and like you, we stood out in the hall looking at the K-5 artwork til we found "ours." God is SO good, isn't He?!

Another Mel
